In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
Here's a story Dad told a couple times that it doesn't seem I have written down.
Working at, managing, the Community Playthings workshop for the Macedonia Cooperative Community – the intentional community in Georgia, he would call it.
Dad described how they made very good quality wooden educational toys. In particular he talked about wooden stove and refrigerator type sets.
A customer, a woman in Hawaii, a schoolteacher I think Dad said, called to say that she had a problem with her order– the items had arrived in fine condition, but she had ordered a stove and a refrigerator, and she had received two stoves. I think Dad said she said she was willing to pay for the extra stove anyway, but she wanted the refrigerator.
(Not sure how the calling worked, I remember Dad saying they used the phone of a local prosecutor, I think– who promised to give them legal trouble if they ever warranted it, but clearly wasn't out to get them.)
Dad apologized and had a replacement sent out.
She called back when it arrived— to say that it was another stove.
When Dad called back, he told her not to worry: he had the person responsible shot.

it would seem Dad must have been at a Bruderhof Community.
