There's a song in that title...

Rather than driving Ms. Zelda and I over a scenic overlook, I parked at one to rest for a while. Woke up about a.m. Then I figured, I'm parked here, I should see this in daylight – at daybreak.

Now it's almost 6 a.m. and no sun in sight.

But immediately on waking up again (shortly before five) I was thinking about our group hike up Mt. Major, and missing sunrise with Manda.

Then running through the woods by the overlook (no path) and finding the smallest stream coursing down its big three-dimensional V, a Roger Miller medley took up in my head. "I have seen the sunlight in the morning on the mountain in disguise" was probably already playing in the background of my mind, and "Wherever there's a hill, there's a valley" really came to the fore and mixed with my thoughts. I have to send that one to Manda if I haven't already.

Also fun: Seeing my running silhouette projected on the opposite hillside by the floodlights of the Allegheny County Roads Department Eastern Division Maintenance Facility.

There are patches of snow on the ground in unexpected places where somehow sun and rain haven't melted them away.

Maryland is one place in the U.S. outside of New England where I could almost see living. I don't think the trees are as interesting though.

(Was doing a little programming, don't know where I lost Zelda to in this rest stop we have to ourselves - ah, there she is - and it's just past 6:30 a.m.) One more shot at seeing something more than shadows ("secret place to run and hide, secret love can't be denied") and then on to Sissonville, West Virginia.
