The server failed just before my grandfather and I were to take my friends Manda and Rich to Provincetown by boat for the 2008 Carnival's Gay Pride parade (or LGBTQQIAF pride I think gets all the current acronyms). I started trying to take triage measures using wireless on the pier but we drove home for more reliable wireless.

I felt so bad my crisis was messing up their one day, that they'd both only barely gotten off from work in the first place.

i offered to do the lines for the boat and have them leave me at the pier, but Grandpa didn't want to go without me as a deck hand

Crisis resolved, inasmuch as I got the sites back up and running and Dan didn't die of a heart attack, ne got on the way again and ended up arriving in Provincetown almost an hour after the parade was supposed to start.

I don't know when it did start but it kept going for almost an hour more!

This was my first Carnival.

The weather was perfect and the day was great after all.

And so I got into the spirit of Provincetown and Carnival and stripped down to my underpants

[this journal entry is excerpts of an IM conversation with km, we'll leave this response in]:
ohmigoodness

... once i was back on the boat and on leaving we ran over our mooring line and it got sucked into the rotor, and I had to dive into the water and under the boat to try to untangle it.

and I'm glad i did because a dry pair of pants on coming out of the water definitely helped stave off the hypothermia

it took me like 50 dives under the boat to finally get it untied and unwrapped. A couple spots I didn't think I would be able to. But that was fun. A lot more satisfying than dealing with the server, and an excellent release from it.

I thought I'd been careful with the rotor blades but when I was on the boat and dressed Manda pointed out I was getting blood on the shirt I bought when Dimitrius and Crystal took me shopping.

Today it and my wounds have been treated with hydrogen peroxide. I should put antibiotic cream on and bandaids again and do the lawnmowing now. Turns out I like manual labor more than web development, but I think getting more than 4 hours of sleep a night and throwing some straight exercise into the mix should be very good also.

Maybe a nap now...
