In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007

Everyone should have private property
texas politician believe in private property some

UPDATE: Apparently the answer, if this web page and the cited Mr. Galbraith can be believed:
The liberal views of Robert Montgomery, professor of economics at the University of Texas, made him unpopular with the Texas legislature. An investigation was set in motion. When he was asked if he favored private property, Montgomery replied "I do - so strongly that I want everyone in Texas to have some."

I've been looking for a quotation, I thought it was a New Deal era Texas legislator named Sam Rayburn, who was pretty far to the left-socialist side of politics, and when accused of the same, he said something like "I love capitalism / private property-- so much so that I want everyone to have capital / property"
awm:
i like that quote!he was witty.
benjamin melançon:
We need collective action / decision-making and all (ooh, link about that coming up), but that's pretty much my perspective-- especially since it's one that will scare the monopoly capitalists more than anythingIt's really weird I can't find it on the Internet though. Did my Dad tell me it?
benjamin melançon:
Personal democracy is an oxymoron; the next renaissance must be for collective participation, reprogramming our culture - http://mlncn.com/node/562 (link to video at top)awm:
maybe your dad came up with the quote and was being modest.benjamin melançon:
lol -- nope, modesty wasn't one of Dad's many good attributesnot that i'm too sure modesty is a good attribute, necessarily
andrea wilkins y martínez:
you don't think modesty is a good attribute in a modest dose?
lol.
PUNS!!!!!!!!

Sam certainly said a lot of good, witty, and pithy things.
"You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too." –Sam Rayburn
