A friend was just talking about hating when she lived in San Francisco, with the named reason being the number of beggars. The implication that it's all right if we keep them out of site bothered me; she said she figured services were better in New York. Anyhow, i've grabbed these tweets and very slightly cleaned up for typos, because they are very relevant to that and another discussion about prisons here.

Half second lag between the schizo lady claiming to have "come all this way to save my ass" & my brain alerting me to ignore/keep walking.

There's a lot of mentally ill people around here, most are homeless. My guess is they are in revolving door between jail and the street.

The theory was, apparently, we didn't need special facilities for these people because we'd developed the "miracle drugs".

The reality is that the mentally ill's (the large number who've been abandoned that is) best hope of treatment is going to prison these days.

That's a big reason why our prison population as swelled to its incredible numbers in fact... We cut off real treatment...

My point, I suppose, is that these poor people are really scared and alone, and i wish our society had a better asylum than prison...

Prison is really bad at making schizophrenics more sane it turns out.
