Hillary Rolls On: Are Netroots a Paper Tiger? - Jeff Cohen
http://community.freespeech.org/hillary_rolls_on_are_netroots_a_paper_ti...

His argument:

  1. The online activists in the Democratic Party don't like Hillary Clinton much (and they should really not like her: Cohen reminds the netroots of the disaster the corporatist policies Bill Clinton's presidency wrought on fair trade and progressive initiatives, and the likelihood of Hillary Clinton bringing more of the same).
  2. Despite this, the nerve centers of online progressives have not mobilized to oppose her, or even criticize her sufficiently.

Cohen lists several reasons for the MoveOn, DailyKos (et. al.?) failure: not recognizing how bad Hillary Clinton would be, as a more-of-the-same president when (my words) the U.S. empire is running out of time to leave the world a safe place for non-empires, or even as a candidate; the leaders becoming too chummy with the traditional policy elite; and the fact that they are not coalescing around a single candidate (split mostly between Obama and Edwards).

Naturally, for me this is further confirmation that the world would be better with tools for collaboration that do not overly empower select groups. This is the problem with the MoveOn format, with the DailyKos format. It is centralized and not democratic, and no elite is ever going to represent people as well as people can represent themselves.

I hope PWGD democratic communication would also encourage a focus on ideas, and so criticism when needed, and not pick-a-bandwagon.
