In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
[2010 February 18, Thursday]
Good phone conversations (walk Zelda to the post office and back) and dinner with Vafa and Andrew.
I keep bringing up the disturbing question for me of how people i know, people from good families, can be joining the Facebook group "People on welfare should have mandatory drug tests"
After three decades of welfare retrenchment.
After six decades of a failed alleged war on drugs.
In the middle of a recession that should be reminding most of us that we could become poor quite easily also.
In the face of the fact that welfare, of the kind they're talking about, what little remains, is about children.
Without thinking if they want their mother and grandfather to get drug tests to get social security or the immense housing tax credit.
Where does the communication even start to unpack this?
Some work.
