In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
Macedonia Cooperative Community in Georgia
Small place when he joined. They were making educational wooden toys working out of a chicken coop. Dad put in a bid for the Hawaii school system when they got it in the mail - not in any way expecting to get it - and they got it. They borrowed money (a loan with the lumber they had as collateral?) and built a workshop. Someone went down to Chicago to beg off machinery. Dad ran the shop- youngest person there. After months of work, they got the last shipment to the boat at 5:00 in the morning- one hour before the deadline of the boat leaving. They didn’t make any money off it, but they were in business.
