In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
I've put in 14-hour days in stocking and relatively physical retail work and all kinds of random stuff, and 36+ hour marathons on computer work., but I feel like I haven't worked a day in my life, even though , compared to the 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. work day that these dozen guys put in.
Thank goodness they did take around an hour lunch break. I guess most went somewhere for lunch, three ate home-brought food and rested on the lawn across the street, looking up at the roof.
I brought out water and juice a couple times in the afternoon. I really like that they were very comfortable being served. Thanked me, but it was taken as the natural gesture it should be for anyone working on your stuff on a hot day.
Not sure the nationalities, but the language was Spanish. Should have hung out more trying to catch up, I understand so little. Un vaso is a glass though, I knew that!
I would love the opportunity to throw manual labor into my days. Should look around for a little work on farms or volunteer opportunities in community gardens.
Suppose I could start with mowing our lawn...
