In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
Vafa, Lexi, Dan, Shannon, Andrea, and I, at the somewhat clean and recently vacuumed "Agaric HQ North" as Dan calls it.
When Vafa and Lexi arrived, around 8:40, naturally I had no food prepared at all. Well, I had started the masala dosa Thursday night and the batter food processed into a thick paste was waiting for us, and had cut up the eggplant for the, uh, Indian eggplant chili
.
Follow the links to those recipes! That's where the fun is!
Dan arrived and switched my James Brown CD to WERS' Dance Hall streamed through Andrea's laptop to the living room stereo speakers.
Shannon took over the eggplant dish (we collaborated on the spicing) and frying the dosa, and is the only reason we ate before midnight.
Dan and Andrea cut a few vegetables, Vafa made a guacamole with my terribly under-ripe avacados, and people subsisted on that and chips and store-bought hummos.
Oh yes, and the mojitos with cilantro instead of mint because I didn't know they needed mint, and I had cilantro. Vafa brought the rum.
We ate at 11:15.
Started to play Apples to Apples around 1 a.m I guess, 20 or so rounds, we broke up the party after 2 a.m.
I will never forgive Dan for picking conspiracy theories over Jackie Chan for trustworthy.
(Although, knowing how his free associating mind works next round, next time he judged I put down spit for refreshing and got it.)
The entire evening was a great deal of fun in person!
